Bishop Samuel Seabury letter, 1795 January 10, to Reverend Abraham Jarvis, Middletown, Conn.

Writing from New London, Connecticut, Bishop Seabury mentioned his improved health, and asked Jarvis if he were going to honor the President's order for a day of Thanksgiving for the day after Ash Wednesday. Seabury also discussed a Freemason sermon he had written and asked when and where the next meeting of the Grand Lodge was to be held. Finally, he commented how people in the United States know they will go to heaven simply by hearing sermons and how a person's goodness was estimated by the number of sermons an individual heard.
